Taken from a news release by the Dickinson-Iron County Local Planning Group: There are 1,000 homeless people in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan as of May 1, 2015. To assist this population to resolve their homeless situation, MSHDA (Michigan State Housing Development Authority) provides funding (with Local Planning Group oversight) for administration of these funds through the Housing Assessment and Resource Agency (HARA).

For Dickinson-Iron Counties, the HARA is AMCAB (Alger-Marquette Community Action Board).

For those who are homeless or in need of housing assistance, the contact information is as follows:

HARA’s number is (800)562-9762, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Eastern Time; extension 207 Intake; extension 223 Jim Chipman, Case Manager; extension 236 Jason Parks, Housing Resource Manager. The Local Planning Group welcomes input, opinion and recommendations from the Dickinson-Iron County community. It meets the third Wednesday of each month at 11 a.m. at Habitat for Humanity.
